| Tooth | Andrews | Roth | MBT |
|---|---|---|---|
| U1 torque | +7° | +12° | +17° |
Each step adds palatal root torque to the upper central to make up for torque lost to play and during overjet reduction and space closure. In 19×25 steel in a .022 slot much of the extra is absorbed, and finished cases do not differ measurably. Sources (4)
| |||
| U2 torque | +3° | +8° | +10° |
The same idea with a smaller step. MBT's +10° is also the value that becomes −10° when the bracket is flipped for a palatal lateral. Sources (2)
| |||
| L1 torque | −1° | −1° | −6° |
MBT tips the lower incisor crown 5° more lingually (more labial root) to resist proclination during levelling and with Class II elastics. No study has tested that claim. Some Roth versions use 0°. Sources (3)
| |||
| U3 tip | +11° | +13° | +8° |
Roth adds mesial canine tip for canine guidance, at the cost of more Class II anchorage and some early bite deepening; MBT cuts it to save anchorage. Roth's 13° is not universal: other sources print 9°, 10° or 11°. Sources (3)

Two textbooks print the MBT upper canine as 0°; −7° is the standard here and the 0° is a separate bracket. One textbook table repeats the upper tip row for the lower arch; the correct lower tips are 0/0/3/2/2/0/0. AO's MBT version marks a +2° lower molar tip as optional.

The standard series only; Andrews also made extraction brackets with extra tip and rotation. Molar values differ between sources (flagged per row). The norms are Andrews' measured crown averages from 120 untreated normal occlusions, not bracket values. Maker versions labelled 'Andrews' differ again (3M Victory: U3 −3° torque, 10° tip).

'Roth' is not one set of numbers. Upper canine tip is 13° here and in a 2013 study, 9° in another textbook (B0202), 10° in 3M and AO versions, 11° in a review. Maker versions also print upper canine rotation (GAC prints '4M') and their own incisor values (3M Victory: U1 +14°, U2 +7°, U3 −3°). Check the chart that came with your brackets.

Values from the maker's catalogue; the designer's own article agrees. That article's line that the lower canine 'can be inverted to −6°' cannot be right: a 0° bracket inverted is still 0°. The catalogue's summary chart lists only −6° for lower incisors while its bracket tables list −1° and −6°.

The rotation column is the catalog's 'compensation in slot / distal offset'. For tubes on bands the catalog recommends −6° angulation. This is one product line, not 'the' Alexander prescription: the same catalog lists another Alexander line (torque/tip: U1 +14°/+5°, U2 +7°/+8°, upper premolars −7°/0°, L1 −5°/0°; torque L4 −11°, L5 −17°), and the 3M and AO versions differ again.

AO's own version; other makers differ on most back teeth and on the lower incisors (−1° in GC and 3M). Rotation is printed without a unit or direction. The textbook's Bioprogressive-type front teeth (tip/torque) match closely: U1 0°/+22°, U2 8°/+14°, U3 5°/+7°, L3 5°/+7° (B0202).

These are final values. The crowns tip freely early on and reach this tip and torque only in the last stage, through uprighting wires in the deep tunnels plus a rectangular wire. Metal values are unchanged from 2015 to 2023.

Generation matters. Q2 changed the upper central and lateral standard values from the original Damon Q (+15° and +6°); the 2008 generation used U1 standard +12° (high +17°, low +7°) and upper canines 0° or +7°. Never mix generations. Torque sits in the base. The slot-base mark '+' means the high variant and '−' the low one, not the sign of the torque (L4 High is −5°). Many low and high variants were marked 'available in 2018'.

Retrocline (low) and Procline (high) versions exist for U1–U3 and L1–L3, listed by part number only, with no printed values. Torque sits in the slot, so the neutral values sit close to Andrews by design. The order of the printed triplet (torque/tip/rotation) is read from the maker's catalogue convention. Do not flip Ultima lower incisors: use the Procline bracket. No molar tubes in this table.

The third column is printed 'Of' (offset); M and D are not defined in the guide (read as mesial and distal). Lower premolars in this line are zirconia. The guide's tubes are generic, not Roth: U6 −10/0/14 or −14/0/10; L6 −25/0/4, −20/0/0 or −14/0/4.

Matches standard MBT values. No canine torque options are listed. The maker does not make ceramic lower premolar brackets: the L4 and L5 values belong to its metal (In-Ovation R) brackets.
